I work in the mental health field and would like to put out an invitation.
Mental health is an issue that affects everyone. It can mean maintaining positive mental health as part of a healthy lifestyle or dealing with a one-time mental health crisis or dealing with a mental disorder on a daily basis throughout one's life.
But wherever a person may find themselves in that continuum, it is an issue that, whether or not we realize it, affects us all in one way or another.
In some cases, the more serious aspects can affect the individual, a family member, a friend, or a co-worker.
The Prince George Mental Health Consumer Council (PGMHCC) is a group of people living with a variety of mental health conditions on a daily basis, who meet bi-weekly, to discuss, explore and find ways to address issues affecting all people living with mental health conditions.
These may range from difficulties finding safe, affordable, adequate housing, to accessing services and adequate assistance in situations that can arise in a person's life and finding and giving out information about services, resources and research.
On Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m., the PGMHCC will be holding an open meeting at 1131 Sixth Ave. People who are interested in learning more are welcome to come and listen, bring their concerns and maybe come away with a new perspective of the terms "mental illness" and "mental health."
