I have the pleasure of visiting our seniors recreation centres in Prince George on a regular basis.
These centres provide physical/mental games and exercises, crafts, entertainment, socialization, companionship, community functions, wellness clinics, and low-cost nutritional meals to keep our seniors healthy and active and out of hospital.
They are all operating on a shoestring and on the verge of closing their doors, because their access/gaming grants have been cut and they are still waiting for their allotment for this year.
These seniors work very hard planning and holding fundraising functions and raffles to keep their centres viable.
Our elected MLAs should be ashamed of themselves for not going to bat for these senior centres and ensuring their funding is in place. They seem to find money to hand out to other groups.
Oh well, they too will age and when they need these centres, I hope they're still in operation.
If it wasn't for our seniors, we wouldn't enjoy the rights and freedoms we have today.
