I always had hopes and dreams for my child to attend one school and make lifelong friends but that all changed when my child was diagnosed with a mental illness and learning disability.
I then hoped for understanding and the help she needed but our public school system has no resources to deal with children with mental illness.
I agreed to switch schools but it only got worse from there, after taking her from the only school she knew.
Before a diagnosis, we went from full day to half day to an hour a day and sadly two hours a week! Once we had a diagnosis and an idea of what was going on, things started improving but not at school.
They continued to not provide the one-on-one full-time help that is needed. My child is not in a classroom and has not been in one in for months so how is my child supposed to learn enough to pass with 80 hours a month of schooling? I can not homeschool with my work hours nor do I want to! One in five children are diagnosed with some kind of mental illness and it's easier for our public school system to just push them out then to help them!
I will continue to fight for the help that is needed but I shouldn't have to.
No child should be isolated or denied an education from the public school system.
My child wants to go to school and do good. She just needs the help and the tools she should be provided at school to achieve that but I guess it's just easier to push them out of the public school system.
