Thank heaven the Skakun caper is finally winding down.
I find it hard to understand why people who aspire to and accept well paid high profile responsible jobs in the public sector feel they are entitled to as much privacy as that accorded to housekeepers of rhubarb farmers.
Because of their influence on and sometimes control of public policy and spending public funds the public should have as much information about them as possible. If they
don't want people to know they like to wear mink-lined drawers other jobs are available.
To accept the premise that their lifestyle does not deserve scrutiny is to cancel as obsolete one of the closing liners of the Christian Lord's Prayer: "And lead us not into temptation."
I, for one, would not want to tempt anyone toward corrupt acts and I don't know why anyone else would by legislating broad rights to privacy.
But then again I sometimes wonder if we can still honestly claim to be a Christian nation.
