As a former server myself I felt I had to reply to yesterday's letter. Tips are not a guarantee in all restaurants. If they were, then they would be added on to the bill. I go out to eat frequently and have noticed a huge decline in the service I get around Prince George. I'm not saying all servers are doing this, but I cannot tell you how many times my table has been ignored for a bigger sale, or because the server has someone they would rather flirt with than serve me. I generally tip well, but if the service wasn't good then I will leave enough to cover a tip pool or nothing at all. Also there are people who can't afford to tip, or just don't believe in it. This is their right. If the servers feel that tips are their right than they can always ask the restaurant owners to add a fixed per cent onto the bill total, or they can always give good service to every table.
