Todd Whitcombe erroneously compares gun licensing in Canada, to that of dogs, drivers, cars, etc. None of those things are so enshrined in federal law as is gun licensing and registration. Nor are the consequences for "failure to obtain" the aforementioned nearly so dire, considering that auto-collisions kills 15 times as many Canadians as can be attributed to any "gun related incidents."
Autos are not designed to kill, yet, kill they do! Scary, scary guns and gun owners. But why then, can $5 million worth of liability insurance for gun owners, for hunting, and sporting, be had, for less than $10 a year?
This is because shooting sports, gun collecting, and hunting, are the safest sports in the world. Insurance companies are experts at determining risk, and rates - their success depends on it.
But, hey, isn't it just plain comfortable, to take the easy road, and ignore facts like this? Before the gun laws came into effect, this liability insurance was available for under $5. Five-to-seven million gun owners became instant criminals, Jan. 1, 1998, as per (Bill C-68) the Firearms Act, in the Criminal Code of Canada, a "legal monument" to the "Montreal massacre.
If you think that being the political target of prejudice, and being publicly demonized by government and media is laughable, then you possibly share the same mental health challenges of Marc Lepine because he killed those 14 women. Everyone knows it, and, punishing the innocent for a crime that was obviously committed by someone else is sick, and wrong, no matter how you spin it. Why are gun owners objecting to licensing and registration? What could possibly be more divisive or offensive than this? Maybe, seeing op-eds filthy with deception, and arrogance, like Mr. Whitcombe has presented.
