The price is just too high

Only last week, a Prince George soldier was laid to rest after giving his life in Afghanistan.

Only last week, a Prince George soldier was laid to rest after giving his life in Afghanistan.

And this past weekend, Afghan President Karsi is quoted as saying that "he himself would be compelled to join the other side -- that is, the Taliban -- if the parliament did not back his controversial attempt to take control of the country's electoral watchdog from the United Nations." He stated this in a meeting of lawmakers as the parliament refused to approve his nominees because "they were allegedly incompetent, corrupt or too weak to resist pressure from powerful people."

Well now. There is more, of course, but that is the core of the matter.

As one who initially supported our involvement in Afghanistan, more and more that position is questionable. Along with the massive increase in opium production since the invasion, we now have a president who wants to join our enemy if his incompetent corrupt cronies are not allowed to run things.

Might one wonder why we are even considering staying past 2011. Even that is too long and the price too high for this nonsense.
