Why can’t The Citizen have a column about local food production

I was disappointed to see an article on Alberta lamb, when we have local shepherds producing lamb, largely for the Prince George market.

While it is at least a good thing to have some visibility for sheep and lamb production, I think that The Citizen could focus on local producers. At present we have 90 lambs born in the last three weeks, and we direct market to customers all over B.C. There are a number of producers in and around Prince George who are producing both market lamb and breeding stock. For information on sheep production, please see the B.C. Sheep Federation website - bcsheepfed.com and the Canadian Sheep Federation website, cansheep.ca.

There is an opportunity in B.C. to increase lamb production as demand far exceeds supply. Tests have shown that Canadian lamb out performs any imported lamb in quality and taste.

With the focus on locally-produced food, could The Citizen not have a column on local producers and local food production?

I am a long time subscriber to The Citizen, and have appreciated the attempts to be a locally focused paper.

I believe people should know what is going on in their community and embrace all the positive things going on and recognize that we are blessed with many talented people who have chosen to make Prince George their home.
