I cannot but agree with your editorial of July 21 concerning MP Bob Zimmer's tweet of congratulations to the Republican nominee Donald Trump.
As has been well reported, Trump has used American bankruptcy laws six times to feather his own nest while forcing small businesses to suffer major losses; he faces fraud charges for marketing a phony university which fleeced others. The same claims arise from a never-built condo in Mexico adding to the more than 4,000 lawsuits brought by or against him.
"The Donald" has defamed women, Mexicans, Muslims, and other minorities and accepted endorsements from white supremacists leaders; he has encouraged violence at his rallies.
Recently it is reported that he will leave most of the presidential work to his vice president while he flutters about to "make America great again" by building a wall on the Mexican border.
As to his business acumen, Trump was given a million-dollar start in business by his father that - if just invested - would have yielded him a bigger fortune today than his business deals have managed to do. The list of Trump failures, from vodka to steaks, from an airline to the casinos, is a long one.
As to his coronation in Cleveland the list of speakers was weak, from phony actors to plagiarism, and mob cries of "Hillary for prison" that mimicked the antics of a banana republic. Oh yes, he needs not advisors as he claims to have a "good brain."
This is presumably what Mr. Zimmer finds so appealing in sending his congratulations to Donald Trump.
Mr. Zimmer is trying to occupy the extreme right-wing fringes of his own party to lead Canadians into the maelstrom of hatred that Trump has created in the United States.
No, Mr. Zimmer. We do not want to follow that bad example.
