Patti Perrault, owner of Simply Beautiful Jewelry Design And Clothing, began creating jewelry to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life 12 years ago.
Cancer touched her life when her mother passed away in 2002.
While creating jewelry was initially a way to support a cause near to Perrault’s heart, word quickly began to spread about her impeccable pieces of handcrafted jewelry made from quartz, labradorite, citrine, and more.
With Perrault’s items in high demand, she began attending markets and saw the opportunity to join forces with local businesses. She jumped on the chance to exhibit her products at a local consignment store, as well as Bellissima Boutique in the Hart Mall.
According to Perrault, this was a pivotal moment in building her business - one she is forever grateful for. “Not only did I gain this brand new customer audience, but I also had the benefit of learning the ins and outs of retail from storeowner Lisa Semotiuk,” she says.
It wasn’t much longer until Perrault opened her own retail store in May 2017 in the Hart Mall.
Since then, the brand has continued to grow.
In 2019, a second location was opened in the downtown core on 4th Ave. And after three years, it was time to expand again, continuing the success downtown in a larger space at 1233 4th Ave.
Perrault is now coming full circle with the addition of Modern Match Lingerie, a local online lingerie start-up, which serves as an homage to her roots.
“I believe in collaboration, not competition. A thriving community supports us all, and I love nothing more than seeing other women within our community thriving,” Perrault says.
Modern Match Lingerie was founded in 2019 by local Shauna Allan, a woman on a mission to empower women worldwide with items that sit closest to their skin.
“Before launching my first collection in 2020, I was looking for a local boutique to sell my lingerie line wholesale,” Allan says. “At the time, I only had one retail partner in California, so I was not well-versed in wholesale relationships yet.
“I put my big girl panties on, packaged my samples, and headed up to the Hart to meet Patti.”
While Perrault politely declined the wholesale request, she offered Allan an opportunity for collaboration.
“Patti has taken me under her wing, showing me the ropes of pop-up sales, night markets and deepening our roots in our hometown,” Allan says.
While Modern Match ships worldwide, Simply Beautiful provides women in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s with an exclusive in-store experience of the brand, while skipping the shipping costs.
You can find sizes ranging from XS to 3XL in the store and receive a personal shopping experience from the friendly staff.
“We’ve created a one-stop-shop for women in Prince George, from quality bras and underwear to comfortable daytime clothes that elevate your date night attire,” Allan says.
