It looks like jobs at the sprawling Electronic Arts campus in Burnaby are safe, as the company lays off 350 employees abroad.
The video game developer announced earlier this week it was cutting jobs in its marketing, publishing and operations departments in Japan and Russia.
“Today we took some important steps as a company to address our challenges and prepare for the opportunities ahead,” CEO Andrew Wilson wrote in a statement. “As we look across a changing world around us, it’s clear that we must change with it.”
Wilson said the announcement made for a “difficult day.”
“The changes we’re making today will impact about 350 roles in our 9,000-person company,” he said. “These are important but very hard decisions, and we do not take them lightly.”
Wilson’s statement and various press reports, including from Kotaku, do no mention EA’s 1,600 Burnaby employees.
The company did not immediately respond to questions from the NOW asking to confirm.
