Huble Homestead welcomes visitors to step back in time for the long weekend with Homestead Days on Sunday, Aug. 4 and Monday, Aug. 5.

As the historic site’s longest-running event, this tradition features heritage activities such as soap-making and the pole wood lathe, as well as food demonstrations including butter, ice cream, and sourdough.

Guided tours offer visitors the opportunity to learn more about the homestead, while the self-led treasure hunt is a fun way for youngsters to explore.

Games and competitions take place each afternoon, with all ages invited to take part in sack races, the egg toss and wheelbarrow races for prizes.

Visitors can put their speed-eating skills to the test the eating contests, featuring watermelon for kids and corn on the cob for adults. Visitors can meet in front of the General Store at noon each day to bid on homemade lunches at the Box Lunch Social auction. Those who lose out can purchase lunch at the barbecue or skip straight to dessert with a slice of pie.

Live music will be provided by Barry Nakahara and Scott Dunbar, who will be playing a mix of folky originals, covers and old-time fiddle tunes.

"While Huble Homestead is always dog friendly, consider leaving the pups at home on Monday, Aug. 5, as the black powder shooters will be out to demonstration and chat about their historical firearms," states a press release.

Huble Homestead, located 40 kilometres north of Prince Gerorge off Highway 97 on Mitchell Road, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Sept. 5. Admission is by donation. For information on events, activities, and planning a trip, visit www.hublehomestead.ca, or call 250-564-7033.
