Despite the RCMP's opening goal, which seemed to shock the arena with its speed and efficiency, the Prince George Fire Department fought back to take a 5-3 victory in the Sirens Cup played at Kopar Memorial Arena on Saturday, Jan. 25.
With more than 1,000 fans in attendance the two teams played a fast-paced, energetic game.
Funds raised from the game, including from a 50/50 draw, chuck-a-puck and fill-the-boot campaign, will be split between the teams contributing to their respective charities, Cops for Cancer Tour de North and the Prince George Firefighters Charitable Society.
The firefighters team took home the trophy this year, beating out the police officers 5-3 in regulation time.
While we are a little saddened to have lost the round this year, the real focus of the game is raising money for two great charities: Cops for Cancer Tour de North and the Prince George Firefighters Charitable Society," stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP. "We are all very glad to be able to give back to the communities we serve in such a fun and positive way, while engaging in a friendly competition at the same time. We are still tallying all the donations, but preliminary numbers indicate we raised over $9,500 to be split between the two charities.
