The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) Northern Region staff stuffed 300 bags last week to hand out to unhoused people in Prince George.

Inside were gloves, toques with headlamps, hand and feet warmers, a survival blanket and a gift card from Tim Hortons.

Twenty staff, divided into teams, loaded up vehicles and drove around the city, handing out the bags and talking to people. Extra bags were left with Olive’s Branch, shelters and the Sobering Centre.

“This is important work. The problem is worsening and supplies are needed. For many, the connection to their home communities isn’t as strong as it could be,” said Brandon Prince, coordinator for the urban and away from home population with the FNHA.

“This is only a start. We have to keep up momentum.”

Another group shared boxed turkey dinners, croissants and bagels, dropping off extras at the food distribution centre in the middle of the Moccasin Flats encampment.

“I am so proud of our staff for taking time and going to meet people where they are at to offer support,” said Julie Morrison, FNHA Northern Region Vice-President of Operations.
