Accident 30 km north of Prince George closes Highway 97

 Highway 97 North is closed in both directions due to a vehicle accident 30 kilometres north of the city near Salmon Valley.

Police and BC Emergency Health Services ambulances are on the scene and the BCEHS helicopter was dispatched.

The accident, at about 12:45 p.m. Monday, happened between Mitchell Road and Summit Lake Road at Barney Creek Road.

“Those drivers needing to head north through the Salmon Valley area are advised to delay their departure as the highway is currently closed in both directions and will remain that way for some time,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.  

“The crash involved a five-ton-truck and a pickup truck, with the total number of occupants currently unknown.”

At least one person has been air-lifted to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

There is no detour available.

Drive BC in a update sent at 3:54 p.m. said it expects the highway will remain closed until 9 p.m.
