Basement fire forces residents to flee Prince George seniors home

A basement fire in the Riverbend Manor seniors complex at 1444 20th Ave., forced the evacuation of the building early Sunday morning.

Residents of a Prince George seniors complex were forced to evacuate their homes due to fire in the basement of the building early Sunday morning.

Prince George Fire Rescue sent crews from three halls to Riverbend Manor at 1444 20th Ave., at about 12:55 a.m. Sunday after fire alarms in the residence were triggered.

Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke on the main floor and heavy smoke in the basement of the building and extinguished a fire in the basement while assisting with the evacuation.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. No estimate of damage caused was released.
