British Columbia continues to ramp up the volume of lumber it ships to China, hitting the 1.2 billion mark by the end of July.
That's up nearly 50 per cent over the same period last year, but off the pace needed to double production as hoped by the provincial government. Just six years ago, lumber shipments to China were below 60 million board feet, and accounted for less than one per cent of B.C.'s exports by volume. In 2009, shipments to China accounted for 11.5 per cent of B.C.'s exports, according to B.C. Statistics.
