In an on-camera briefing this afternoon (Feb. 16) following the Family Day long-weekend, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said another 1,533 COVID-19 cases were recorded in a four-day reporting period for a grand provincial total of 74,283 since January last year.
The full breakdown is as follows:
- 452 = Friday to Saturday
- 431 = Saturday to Sunday
- 348 = Sunday to Monday
- 302 = Monday to Tuesday
Of those, Northern Health found 135 new infections, surpassing the 4,000-case milestone for an updated authority total of 4,104.
Henry announced another 26 deaths during the past four days, which brings the province's toll to 1,314.

On Friday (Feb. 12), officials announced there are now three variants of COVID-19 in B.C.
Henry said a variant originating from Nigeria had been found, with the single case being travel-related.
As of today, there are 60 total cases involving variants across the province. Henry says 40 are associated with the U.K. variant, 19 of the South African originated variant and one variant involving Nigeria.

There's some good news in Northern Health's COVID-19 battle.
According to the latest numbers from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and positivity rates as of Feb. 11, 2021, the region sits at 14.4 per cent.
For comparison, Island Health is currently at 2.8 per cent, Vancouver Coastal Health is 5.2 per cent, Fraser Health is seven per cent and Interior Health sits at 5.9 per cent.
The provincial positivity rate as of Feb. 11, 2021, is 6.2 per cent.
However, COVID-19 case loads remain higher than the region would like to see.
In the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Health Service Delivery Area of Case Residence data released by the BCCDC, caseloads remain high in Northern Health, but especially in northwest B.C.
From Feb. 5-11, 2021, northwest B.C. recorded 138 cases while northeast B.C. had just 54.
In the northern interior area, which includes Prince George, there were 87 cases in the same time period.
Since January of last year, the Northern Interior has totalled 1,756 cases while northwest B.C. has recorded 1,277.
Northeast B.C. sits below 1,000 cases at 921.
