B.C. continues to see up-and-down numbers when it comes to COVID-19.

In a written statement today (Jan. 12), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 446 more cases in B.C. during the past 24 hours, pushing the grand total to 58,553 since the pandemic started a year ago.

Of the newly announced cases, Northern Health has added 46, which brings the recorded total to 2,606.

Henry announced another nine deaths in B.C in the past day which raises the fatality rate to 1,019. One belongs to Northern Health for a new total of 43.

There are 5,045 people listed as active for COVID-19 throughout the province, 368 of whom are in hospital with 72 in critical care.

A total of 51,144 have been classified as fully recovered.

According to the latest COVID-19 data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), Prince George and the northern interior region have the most cases since January of last year, as well as from Jan. 1 to 7, 2021.

The Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Health Service Delivery Area of Case Residence shows that from Jan. 1, 2020, to Jan. 7, 2021, the northern interior has recorded 1,239 cases.

The northwest region has recorded 561 while the northeast region has seen 578.

Through the first seven days of the new year, the northern interior recorded 156 cases while the northwest saw 111 and 72 in the northeast.

Meanwhile, the Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence from Dec. 27, 2020, to Jan. 2, 2021 shows Prince George has seen 118 cases in that time frame.

The Nechako area has seen five while Quesnel posted just two; Peace River North recorded 81 with Peace River South adding 10.

The virus continues to wreak havoc at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George where 14 people have died since an outbreak was declared a month ago on Dec. 12.

However, there have been no additional cases of COVID-19 found at Jubliee Lodge since it's last update on Jan. 4, meaning there are still 60 infections broken down among 48 residents and 12 staff members.

Northern Health has previously told PrinceGeorgeMatters that Jubliee Lodge has a capacity of 66 patients.

The Prince George long-term care home is one of four active outbreaks across the region.

Two COVID-19 outbreaks are in University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC), including the Internal Medicine Unit where one person has died among 21 total infections, broken down to 10 patients and 11 staff members.

The other is in the Rehabilitation Unit where one case has been detected since Jan. 5.
