Two more members of School District 57 (SD57) have been marked for COVID-19 coming the days immediately following the winter break.
DP Todd Secondary in Prince George and Valemount Secondary are now listed by Northern Health for a virus exposure event as of today (Jan. 11).
Students and staff at DP Todd may have been exposed to someone who tested positive for the virus between Jan. 4 and 6, while those at Valemount Secondary may have come into contact on Jan. 6.
Since the pandemic began, 18 Prince George-based schools have been flagged at least once by Northern Health for a COVID-19 exposure event.
With the addition of Valemount, there have now been 15 members associated with SD57 under the authority's watch.
Northern Health's school-exposure section explains students should still go to school "if you do not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health," but you're also encouraged to monitor symptoms daily.
- Contact tracing is initiated to determine how the individual was infected and who they were in close contact with
- We identify and notify close contacts who may be at an increased risk, and advise them to self-isolate and monitor for symptoms for 14 days
- Only Public Health can determine who is a close contact
- Learning groups, friends or other connections may not be determined to be a close contact
- Public Health staff works closely with the school and school district throughout the case and contact management process to maintain close communication with the school community

As of this publication, Northern Health has recorded 2,560 COVID-19 cases, stemming from 173 new ones found since Friday (Jan. 8).
The death toll has now reached 42 after five more people passed away linked to the virus, as reported today by Health Minister Adrian Dix.
The numbers also include 16 people admitted into critical care among 44 total hospitalizations and 2,006 recoveries.
The correct amount of active cases, as explained by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry in her update today, remains undetermined as a technical error is being tended to as well as a system switch.
