B.C. Centre for Disease Control has released its latest weekly map with numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases in communities.

According to the map, which covered the period from  Jan. 10 to Jan. 16, Prince George recorded 76 cases within the Prince George Local Health Area.  This is an average daily rate of 10 to 15 cases per 100,000 people.

That’s down from last week when the BCCDC announced 108 cases from Jan. 3 to Jan. 9.

The number of cases has increased in Fort Nelson from 31 to 40.

Quesnel remains at 4 cases while, Burns Lake has 33, Peace River South has 8, Peace River North has 37, Nechako 31, Smithers 32.

Yesterday (Jan. 21) the province announced 500 new cases discovered which brings the total to 62,412.

Of those, Northern Health recorded 35 more infections for an updated authority total of 2,978. Health officials also announced 14 more people in B.C. have died from the virus, which brings the fatality rate to 1,104.

One of those new deaths took place in the north for a new regional toll of 54 since the pandemic began.

Health officials have called off the regular COVID-19 briefing in British Columbia scheduled for today as they prepare to update the province's strategy for immunization against the virus.

An advisory from the premier's office says the briefing by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix is cancelled.

Instead they will join a news conference Friday (Jan. 22) with Premier John Horgan and Dr. Penny Ballem, who is leading B.C.'s COVID-19 immunization rollout.

The four are expected to comment on the next steps in the immunization program that has been complicated by a hiccup in vaccine supply from Pfizer-BioNTech.
