Mother Nature, with ice in her veins, is leaving Prince George with a colder climate this coming week with temperatures expected to drop below -20 C.

As a result, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club has been forced to postpone its hosting duties for the 2020 Biathlon BC Cup by two weeks.

The local club, along with the governing body for biathlon competitions in the province, believe the weather forecasted for this weekend will prove to be too frigid for the athletes, making it more difficult to participate.

Biathlon BC’s second leg of its five-stage provincial cup race will now take place Jan. 24-26, 2020.

Roughly 75 athletes are signed up for the two-day event at Otway, including individual and pursuit races that combine skiing and shooting.

More details are expected to be provided by the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club by early next week.

The BC Cup comes nearly a year after Caledonia hosted the 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships, where almost 20 countries hit the northern capital slopes in hopes of winning gold.
