Another hopeful season has started for one of Prince George’s winter Olympians and in terms of individual performance, she’s off to an impressive start.

Sarah Beaudry was in Sweden last week for her first crack at the 2019-20 World Cup season for Team Canada in the International Biathlon Union (IBU).

The 25-year-old stood out in the shooting range among over 100 competitors from more than 20 countries at Ostersund, going 80 per cent and hitting a combined three-race total 32 of 40 targets.

This included a perfect 10-for-10 in the 4x6 km women’s team relay on Sunday (Dec. 8) as the lead biathlete for Canada, who ultimately finished 16th in the race.

Beaudry sprinted to a time 1:24.3 out of first place.

The Prince George product started with a 73rd-place finish out of 105 in the women’s 7.5 km sprint on Dec. 1 in central Scandinavia, shooting eight of 10 targets and crossing the line 2:42.1 off the pace.

In her second race, the 15 km individual contest, Beaudry went 70 per cent in the range hitting 14 of 20 targets, but fell over nine minutes out of first for a 92nd-place result.

Beaudry is a member of Canada’s national senior biathlon squad and competed at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.

She’s now off to Austria for the second leg of the BMW IBU Biathlon World Cup, starting on Thursday (Dec. 12) at Hochfilzen, about 90 minutes east of Innsbruck.
