Valemount RCMP are investigating a bizarre, unprovoked attack on a good Samaritan along Highway 5 near Valemount.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 24 a commercial vehicle truck driver stopped to assist what appeared to be a stranded vehicle on the shoulder of the road.

When the truck driver got out of his vehicle to see if he could help, he was attacked from behind, said Cst. Ron George.

The trucker was knocked unconscious and when he regained consciousness laying on the highway both the suspects and the vehicle were gone.

The 67-year-old trucker, who suffered serious injuries, drove himself to Blue River where he reported the assault to the RCMP, and was transported to Kamloops Hospital.

"Theft does not appear to be a motive for the attack and we are continuing to investigate this apparently senseless incident," said George, who's asking assistance from the public in identifying the stranded car and it's occupants.

"We are hoping that somewhere along the Highway 5 corridor a person in one of the communities may have noticed someone or something suspicious that day."

He described the stranded vehicle as an older model, maroon and red four-door car with an orange trap in the back window. It was pointed north on the southbound shoulder.

Anyone with information regarding this assault are requested to contact the Valemount RCMP at 250-566-4466 or their local police services here in B.C., Alberta or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477
