Josh Maser will be playing a step below the NHL next season, unless COVID-19 says otherwise.
The graduating captain of the Prince George Cougars has inked a one-year contract with the Iowa Wild for 2020-21, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.
In four years with his regional WHL team, the Houston, B.C. product combined for 143 points in 218 games, including 90 goals and 53 assists.
Maser led the franchise in goals the last three seasons (28, 30 and 29) and captured Prince George's 2019-20 season-scoring title with 48 points in 62 games while wearing the 'C' on his sweater.
He's also no stranger to playing among NHL-calibre talent, having attended the New York Rangers' 2019 prospects camp and competed with other blue-shirts at the prestigious Traverse City Tournament.
Maser was traded to Prince George in October 2016 from the Prince Albert Raiders and immediately joined to the Cariboo Cougars.
The now 21-year-old led the team to B.C.’s major midget hockey final that season with 37 points in 32 regular-season games.
Maser was named Prince George Cougars' team MVP, as well as the best player voted his teammates, in 2019.
The Iowa Wild finished it's latest campaign second in the AHL's Central Division with a record of 37-18-4-4 before COVID-19 cancelled the remainder of the season and the Calder Cup Playoffs.
