Prince George RCMP seized drugs and weapons from a local home after seeing a man setting a stolen vehicle on fire Nov. 29.
Officers with the Problem Oriented Policing team and Downtown Safety Unit were in the area of Victoria Street and McCullagh Avenue when they saw the burning vehicle. A suspect was arrested a short time later as he tried to leave in a waiting taxi, along with three other people, police said.
A loaded firearm and what's suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and hydromorphone were found inside the taxi.
All four people, who are known to police, were arrested, which led police to Quince Street and other locations.
"Locating the firearms and illicit drugs prompted the investigators to execute search warrants at the residences of some of the suspects," states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer with the Prince George RCMP. "Once inside, police officers located multiple firearms, including several high-powered firearms, and ammunition. They also located silicone molds that appear to have been used to press illicit drugs into candy-like shapes."
Three of the four suspects were released pending charge approval by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.
The fourth suspect, John Robert Barton Craig, 39, will remain in jail until his next court appearance.
Charges were approved against Craig for arson, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failing to comply with probation and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition.
The investigation is ongoing.
