Canfor finishes year in the red

Canfor Corp., a major northern B.C. lumber producer, has posted a fourth-quarter loss of $17 million and full-year 2009 losses of $70.5 million after another tough year. Lumber prices had been depressed all year as a result of a collapse in U.S.

Canfor Corp., a major northern B.C. lumber producer, has posted a fourth-quarter loss of $17 million and full-year 2009 losses of $70.5 million after another tough year.

Lumber prices had been depressed all year as a result of a collapse in U.S. housing. Only recently, have lumber prices begun to rise, however, industry observers and players believe the recent price spike is driven more by temporary supply shortages than increased demand.
