A driver has been fined and had their sports car impounded after reports of a driver shooting fireworks at pedestrians, according to a statement released by the Prince George RCMP.
On June 15, just after midnight, police received multiple reports from residents in the area of 20th Avenue and Oak Street about what sounded like gunshots, and a black Mustang speeding and doing stunts in the area. Some callers reported seeing two people hiding in an alley.
Police officers arrived on scene and located the people in the alley. They told officers the black Mustang had been following them, and the driver had shot fireworks at them out of the vehicle.
Neither person was injured by the fireworks.
Officers patrolling the area soon located the black Mustang, but the driver took off and evaded police at high speed as soon as the officers activated their emergency lights.
Police tracked the vehicle to a home in the 2100-block of Norwood Street. Police impounded the vehicle for seven days, and issued the driver tickets for driving without insurance, without a driver's licence and driving without consideration.
“In total, the driver received fines of $1,070 and nine demerit points on his license, as well as the associated tow and impound fees," Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper said in a press release. "Driving behaviour such as this is dangerous and not acceptable. Hopefully the steep financial consequences of this driver’s choices will make them think twice before attempting a stunt like this in the future."
