Vehicle owners who are having engine problems will now be able to get help from CNC’s Automotive Service Technician students who are looking for vehicles to diagnose and repair.
From Oct. 19 to 25, the program will be accepting gas or hybrid vehicles from the Prince George community.
Vehicles must be hybrid-powered or run on gasoline. They must also have one or more of the following problems: runs poorly, check engine light on, difficulty starting or stalling.
“This is a great opportunity for vehicle owners to get their cars fixed properly at a much lower cost while also supporting the next generation of technicians,” said instructor Ken Rowell.
“AST 3 students are in their final year of the program, and this is when they can put all their knowledge together and do some real-world diagnosis work. These are the same people who’ll be caring for your cars in local shops in just a few months.”
Vehicles will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until the ten spots are filled. Although there is a cap on this specific opportunity, the department is regularly looking for other vehicles for AST students to repair and diagnose.
“Our foundations classes are always looking for vehicles that need basic repairs like brakes steering, suspension, maintenance, electrical, etc. We’ll take as many cars as possible,” said Rowell.
“All repairs start with diagnosis or inspection, then the owner is given a list of needs and they can decide what they’d like to have fixed.”
Most repairs will be completed within the allotted class time, but it is important to note that repairs can sometimes take longer, as this is a school program and not an established auto service shop.
Vehicle owners will be responsible for any parts costs required for the repair. To inquire further about the program or to book a vehicle for diagnosis or repairs, call the automotive tool room at 250-562-2131 x5688.
