The Cummings Road Regional Transfer Station can now handle used oil and antifreeze.
A recycling centre in the form of a three-metre modified sea container and a 1,100-litre tank is now up and running at the site - the product of a partnership between the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the B.C. Used Oil Management Association.
The addition follows on an upgrade of the facility, located at 8375 Alpine Dr. in Pineview, to allow for better traffic flow.
The facilty shows the FFGRD's "continued commitment to accommodating the growing recycling needs of their community,” said BCUOMA CEO David Lawes in a press release.
“We are happy to see that BCUOMA’s partnership with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has created a new, first-class used oil recycling infrastructure that is environmentally friendly, free, and easy to use.”
The site also accepts used oil and antifreeze containers and oil filters.
Used oil can be re-refined into new lubricating oil or material inputs for manufacturing or energy products and used antifreeze is refined and reused as new automotive antifreeze.
Used oil and antifreeze containers are recycled and used to manufacture new oil containers, drainage tiles, and parking curbs. Additionally, used oil filters contain metal, which is recycled into metal products like rebar, nails, and wire.
The items are also accepted at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill, the Vanway and Quinn Street transfer stations, OK Tire, Four Rivers Co-op, Mr. Quick Lube and Oil, Jepson Petroleum Ltd., Canadian Tire, Prince George Truck and Equipment (except for oil filters), Great Canadian Oil Change (oil and antifreeze only) and A-Star Automotive Recycling Ltd., (oil and antifreeze only).
