A team of student volunteers from Cedars Christian school helped the Hart Pioneer Centre with the clean-up and winter preparation of their gardens this past week.
“We go out into the community, whether it be something like this or we go out to Ness Lake Bible Camp and we work outside, we pull weeds or help clean churches or help other community organizations,” said Amy Larson, Grade 12 Cedars Christian student, who was one of about 10 volunteers at the clean-up site Thursday.
“We go out and volunteer because as a Christian school our goal is to help others in the community that we live in. This was so great because of the new connections that have been made here. I didn’t even know we had the Pioneer Centre and it was very cool to listen to their story about how they help the seniors in the Hart.”
The Hart Pioneer Centre is the only senior centre in Prince George owned, operated and maintained by its members.
Dave Rowland, director of community engagement at Cedars, said he believes this will be the start of a lasting partnership with the Hart Pioneer Centre.
“On behalf of the board of directors and members of Hart Pioneer Centre, we would like to thank the team of student volunteers from Cedars Christian school for their time and effort to prepare and to clean up the south side garden at the centre,” Lorraine Prouse, president of the Hart Pioneer Centre, said. “We are thrilled to have their help.”
