The re-match of the 2018 Prince George Senior Men’s Baseball (PGSBL) championship took place Thursday (May 23) at Citizen Field.
The JRJ Construction Orioles began its quest for back-to-back titles with a 6-0 shutout over the Inland Control and Services Tigers, extending their win streak to seven games dating back to the 3-0 sweep in last year’s final series, the playoffs, and the final two regular-season games.
Much like the Queensway Auto World Red Sox in the season opener on Wednesday (May 22), the O’s got hot off the bats in the first inning, scoring four runs within the first at-bats for a 4-0 lead.
Craig Horswell and Paul Wilson each had an RBI double that contributed to the cause.
The last two runs both came in the top of the third with Wilson and Pitcher Jon Bourassa, thanks in part to a pair of players getting hit by a pitch and taking their base.
Bourassa had a complete seven-inning night on the mound for the Orioles, throwing a remarkable 12 strikeouts that included six non-swinging strikeouts.
In total, JRJ Construction had eight hits and one error.
On the other side, the Tigers managed to get two hits at the dish, but also recorded one error in the loss.
The Orioles join the Red Sox with an early 1-0 season record.
The next PGSBL game is tonight (May 24), 7 p.m. at Citizen Field and it’ll be the D.O.B. Contracting Gladiators' 2019 debut up against the Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights.
A full schedule for the season can be found on the PGSBL website.
