The Northern Bear Awareness Society received a $1,500 grant from the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

The funding allows for the society to print new brochures that will benefit Prince George, Mackenzie, McBride and Valemount. Brochures haven't been updated since 2004, and by replacing them NBAS can enhance its public education program.

Education on minimizing backyard bear attractants is crucial this year, as black bear complaints have now surpassed 450 in the P.G. area, and 28 black bears have been destroyed this season.

NBAS will have a booth at the Prince George Exhibition, from August 11 to 15.

They will have an updated complaints map, and you can join the Fruit Exchange Program or talk about your latest bear encounter.
