After a tough start to the weekend for Duchess Park Secondary (DPSS), the Condors were able to finish on a positive note at one of B.C.’s marquee volleyball tournaments on the calendar for high school.
After going 1-2 in pool play, DPSS’ senior boys team was relegated to the consolation playoff round at the 2019 Best of the West Volleyball Tournament in Kelowna, which was the lower half of the 32-team event.
From there, they went on a 4-0 undefeated streak to claim the top of the lower mountain and finish in 17th.
Duchess Park defeated Okanagan Mission Secondary in the consolation final, getting past Kelowna Christian in the semis, Mt. Baker in the quarters and David Thompson in the round of 16.
In pool play, DPSS fell to Pacific Academy and Penticton before winning in straight sets over McRoberts (Richmond).
The Condors were ranked ninth in B.C. senior boys AA volleyball going into the weekend; the tournament consisted of schools from all three levels of provincial competition.
The other Prince George school at Best of the West was College Heights Secondary (CHSS), ranked fourth in AA before the weekend, who were placed into the top pool at the tournament.
CHSS also finished 1-2 in the round-robin stage, losing to host-Kelowna Secondary and Earl Marriot, but downed Calgary Christian in three sets.

Both DPSS and CHSS combined for a 7-6 record in Kelowna.
