Eight more COVID-19 cases found during outbreak at UHNBC Internal Medicine Unit

New COVID-19 infections have been found within Prince George's hospital.

According to Northern Health, eight more cases were detected in the Internal Medicine Unit at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) between New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) and today (Jan. 4), broken down among four patients and four staff members.

Since a precautionary outbreak was declared on Dec. 29 and upgraded to a full outbreak two days later, a total of 21 people have tested positive for the virus, including 10 patients and 11 staff.

UHNBC's Internal Medicine Unit is one of four outbreaks declared within Northern Health's jurisdiction.

The authority announced a 12th resident had died at Prince George's Jubilee Lodge since Dec. 31, as well as an additional infection in a staff member.

In total, 60 people within the long-term care facility have tested positive for COVID-19 since its outbreak was declared on Dec. 12.

As of this publication, Northern Health has recorded 2,017 cases since March 2020 including 27 deaths, per the latest stats from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

There are currently 584 active cases, 18 people admitted into critical care among 38 hospitalizations, and 1,396 recoveries.
