Northern Health's first New Year's baby born in Prince George

Baby Kace was the first New Year's baby in Northern Health and born in Prince George.

Oh boy! 

Northern Health has announced the first baby of 2021 in the north was born in Prince George.

Baby Kace was born at 4:11 a.m. to mom Jessica Penner and dad Kenneth Wray from Quesnel. 

He weighed in at seven pounds, 11 ounces. 

He was welcomed into the world by by his half-siblings Jacob and Nathan.

In the northeast, the first baby was born in Fort St. John and was also a boy and born to mom Kristen McCaughley and dad Corbyn Hubley

The baby is currently unnamed but came in at 7 pounds 8 ounces at 8:21 a.m on New Year's Day.

He was welcomed to the world by his little sister two-year-old sister Maya Becker. 

In the northwest region, the first baby was also a boy. 

The baby is currently unnamed but was born at 2:18 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton to mom Royelle Williams and dad Shane Skulsh of Kispiox.

The baby is the third generation of his family to be born at Wrinch Hospital. 

“Royelle is Gitxsan and was born here on Gitxsan territory, so it was important to her that her baby was also born in her community,” Midwife Hana Lang said in an announcement from Northern Health.

“She worked very hard for a very long time to deliver this babe and I'm so proud of her! Her mom, Jane Williams, was also at the birth; she delivered Royelle here at Wrinch memorial hospital too, and Shane, the father, was also born at Wrinch.”
