Tactical teams have been called in to help Prince George RCMP deal with an ongoing situation at a downtown residence known to police.
"RCMP were called to this residence because of the abandoned 911 call that we received," said Spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper to the media at the scene, noting crews responded just after 12 p.m. today (Jan. 6) and that the North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) is helping Mounties, along with a Dog Services unit.
"We don't have much more information than that. This is a house that has been known to police and has been on our radar for some time."
According to RCMP, the incident is at a home on 1600-block 11 Avenue near the intersection of Vancouver Street.
Cooper says many people have surrendered and come outside the home, but more are believed to be inside.
It's unknown if cooperation is the issue.
"We don't know what their situation is, so we're just trying to get them to come out willingly and of their own accord, and just trying to urge a peaceful resolution to this situation," Cooper remarked.
She adds there's currently no danger to the public at this time, but residents are being asked to avoid the area.
"This is a dynamic event which could change rapidly and unpredictably. We'll provide updates as we gather them."
