A bathroom fan is the centre of an investigation into a house fire in College Heights.
The home on Madden Place was ablaze at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Fifteen firefighters from three halls responded.
"A passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from the roof of a side-split single family residence," said deputy fire chief John Lane. "No one was home at the time of the fire, and forcible entry was required."
The fire was most active on the main floor of the house. Firefighters sprayed water strategically and used tarpaulins to protect the contents of the house as best they could under the circumstances. It took about two hours to extinguish the fire.
"Investigators from the Prince George Fire Rescue Service determined the fire started at the location of a bathroom exhaust fan in the second floor ceiling," said Lane. "An inspector from the BC Safety Authority seized the fan for testing."
The damage is estimated at between $75,000 and $100,000.
