The Ministry of Advanced Education is offering financial support to those taking the College of New Caledonia's adult upgrading courses and programs.
Programs include academic upgrading, known previously as College and Career Preparation or CPP, the FOCUS program in Burns Lake, domestic English as a second language courses and the JET/TARGET, the adult special education program.
Qualified applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons, or B.C. residents for one full year.
The amount of financial support depends on income and family situation.
The grant can cover tuition, textbooks, supplies, transportation and childcare to reduce financial barriers that may otherwise prevent students from reaching academic and ultimately their career goals.
Kamaljit Badesha took upgrading courses with her grant and is now a first year student in the applied sciences program, transferring to the University of B.C. for engineering next year.
"There is no way that I could have stayed in school without this funding," said Badesha.
"Thanks to the grant, the college's great facilities and the amazing staff, I am able to pursue my educational goals."
