Prince George Fire Rescue quickly extinguished Tuesday night a fire that broke out in a vacant apartment building in the 1000 block of Third Avenue.
Called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m., twelve firefighters from three halls found flames coming from a basement stairwell located at the rear of the building.
A "quick attack" isolated the fire to the building's rear entrance, PGFR assistant chief Denis Poulin said in a release. No occupants were found inside the building.
Damage is estimated at $20,000 and the cause of the fire was deemed suspicious.
