Canadians are isolating themselves and staying distant from others, but a first-of-its-kind event is set to paint the internet red by dressing to the nines in their own home.
The Prince George Community Foundation (PGCF) is inviting local residents to take part in the Stay-at-Home Gala, an online virtual event from coast-to-coast in hopes of uniting the nation and strengthening community efforts in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Social distancing at its finest, the virtual gala will join hundreds of Canadians across the country, and will host all the familiar elements of a gala,” reads a PGCF release, “both national renowned as well as local game-changing speakers, entertainers, musicians, optional dinner delivered to your door, and much more.”
The two-hour evening will help raise funds for the PGCF’s Emergency Response Fund.
Prince George will be one of 20 communities across Canada hosting the gala next Saturday, May 2.
“COVID-19 is dramatically affecting the way we live, but it isn’t changing who we are,” the organization adds.
“Whenever our community members struggle, we rally to support one another. We rally to showcase our strength as both a community and a country, and we rally to raise funds for those in need. The Prince George Community Foundation will direct 100 per cent of proceeds of local funds raised to support those most impacted by COVID-19 and local charities.
Locally, CBC’s Catherine Hansen and Prince George City Councillor Kyle Sampson will host and guest performers include Juno-nominated performer Will Stroet, actress Grace Dove, folk musician Amy Blanding and rock group The Statistics.
The Stay-at-Home Gala takes place 5 to 7 p.m. on May 2.
