It’s everyone’s favourite word, and for day-to-day bus commuters in Prince George, the word is extra meaningful this month as a holiday campaign will soon shift into gear.
BC Transit is rolling out its annual Food for Fare Dec. 16, 17 and 18, which allows residents to ride the bus for free on any scheduled local routes by making a non-perishable food donation.
The collected donations are earmarked for the Prince George Salvation Army Food Bank.
BC Transit tells PrinceGeorgeMatters, in the last 30 years of the campaign, local riders have brought in a yearly average of 300 to 500 pounds of food.
“BC Transit and the City of Prince George are pleased to be able to help support our community, especially given the impact of COVID-19 this year,” a news release reads this afternoon (Dec. 9).
The provincial organization explains donations can be dropped off upon boarding a bus in its designated area and are asking everyone to continue to practice physical distancing while doing so.
Face-coverings remain mandatory on all bus services in the city, and have been in effect since Aug. 24.
