A new permanent change is coming to Prince George buses.
BC Transit is set to retrofit full driver doors soon on 23 of its northern-capital buses to replace current protective vinyl, which were brought in as a response to COVID-19 for the safety of its operators.
This includes 16 heavy-duty buses and seven medium-duty vehicles.
The provincial service adds the doors will be implemented on all future buses when new ones are added to a city’s fleet.
In a release, it adds there’ll be no impact on routes and services as the change takes place, however, Community and handyDART buses will keep their vinyl panels.
“The full driver door is a movable barrier situated to the right of the driver’s seat near the fare box designed to increase protection for our drivers,” says BC Transit.
“It includes a transparent piece of laminated tempered glass with anti-glare coating and metal base. The full driver door windows can be adjusted to account for sightlines associated with different seat positions.”
The driver doors are set to be installed over a three-day period.
BC Transit explains Kodiak Mobile Video Installations is conducting the door installations, which are produced by AROW Global Corporation.
💡 #BC riders, please remember to bring your face covering when travelling with us 🚌💙 Transit operators are exempt from wearing face coverings behind the full driver door/vinyl panel, although you may still see them wear one!
