A B.C. family needs help after their newborn daughter developed a life-threatening heart condition and had to be rushed to Children's Hospital in Vancouver.
Payton Hoffert has been diagnosed with a congenital heart condition and had to undergo major surgery just a few days ago.
She's facing the prospect of another surgery and a very long recovery.
Payton's uncle Jason Hoffert tells Glacier Media, "on day two of being alive, she almost died."
Erin Mcguire, a family friend, started a GoFundMe to help the family cover expenses while Payton recovers.
"Whatever we can do. My brother (Shadoe) is off work right now for knows how long because the recovery could take a long time," says Hoffert.
The family is doing the best they can to cope and Payton's siblings are at Ronald McDonald House while the parents spend their days beside Payton at the hospital.
"The Hoffert family has a long road of recovery ahead of them and Shadoe will not be able to return to work anytime soon! We are counting on our family and friends to come together and ensure they have everything they need and can continue to focus on Payton’s care vs the financial position they are in right now!" the GoFundMe says.
The GoFundMe has set a goal of $15,000 to help the family cover mortgage payments, bills and other expenses. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fund had already reached more than $8,000.
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart for every nickel, dime and dollar you donate as every cent counts," says Erin Mcguire, the GoFundMe organizer.
