Here are the biggest wildfires in the Prince George region

Prince George Fire Centre dealing with six fires of note and one additional large fire in Van-Jam and Mackenzie zones

Close to Prince George, the BC WIldfire Service is currently fighting two wildfires of note (a fire highly visible or considered to pose a threat to public safety) in the Mackenzie Fire Zone, as well as three wildfires of note and one large active fire in the Vanderhoof-Fort St. James Fire Zone.

Greer Creek  fire

Location: About 25 kilometres SW of Vanderhoof

Size of fire: 47 square kilometres

State of fire: Being held

Evacuation alerts/orders: None

BC Wildfire resources deployed: 14 ground firefighters, seven pieces of heavy equipment, helicopters and airtankers or water skimmers available as needed.

Whitefish Lake fire

Location: 25 km west of Fort St. James, south of Stuart Lake

Size of fire: 39 square kilometres

State of fire:  Out of control

Evacuation alerts/orders: Tl’azt’en Nation alert issued July 11

BC Wildfire resources deployed: 94 firefighters, eight pieces of heavy equipment, air support as needed.

Great Beaver Lake fire

Location: 28 km east of Fort St. James on north and east edges of the Great Beaver Lake.

Size of fire: 92 square kilometres

State of fire: Under control

BC Wildfire resources deployed: 40 firefighters, seven pieces of heavy equipment, air support as needed.

Tatuk Lake fire

Location: 30-40 km south of Vanderhoof, east of Finger-Tatuk Provincial Park.

Size of fire: 139 square kilometres

State of fire:  Out of control

Evacuation alerts/orders: Evacuation order issued Aug. 21 for area south of Bobtail Connector Forest Service Road. Evacuation alerts in surrounding area also in effect. More information on Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako website. Evacuees told to register at Prince George Emergency Reception Centre at Kin Centre.

BC Wildfire resources deployed: Seven firefighters, nine pieces of heavy equipment, air support as needed.

Big Creek fire

Location: 110-120 km NW of Mackenzie

Size of fire: 550 square kilometres

State of fire:  Out of control

Evacuation alerts/orders: Evacuation order issued June 30 for Germansen Landing and 12 Mile area, accessed off Thutade Forest Service Road , including North Takla Lake 12 Reserve, Mainline Forest Service Road, parts of the Omineca Provincial Park and private resource operations west of Germansen Lake.Evacuees being told to register in Prince George.

BC Wildfire resources deployed:  Two structure protection units (both deployed at Germensen Landing), one unit crew, one initial attack crew, 10 pieces of heavy equipment, six helicopters. Additional unit crew and 20 personnel from Canadian Forces on the way. (Resources shared with Fall River fire).

Fall River fire

Location: 110-120 km NW of Mackenzie

Size of fire: 220 square kilometres

State of fire:  Out of control

Evacuation alerts/orders: None
