It was a dream come true for bride Caitlynn Westwick who married the love of her life in Prince George on Saturday.
"I'm just over the moon. I feel so great. It's amazing," Westwick said.
But it was a day that Westwick did not think she would ever see happen.
At least, not for a while.
The couple, from Williams Lake, along with thousands of others, were evacuated from their home.
They grabbed their children and what belongings they could.
"I remember sitting there on the couch listening to the radio and we heard the order to go. We had to leave," Westwck said.
With a full wedding already planned and mostly paid for on July 29 at Elysia Resort in Quesnel, the couple had no time to turn back.
"When we were evacuated, my wedding didn't even come to mind," Westwick said.
The couple hoped for the best as they packed toys for their children, 10-year-old Jennifer and three-year-old Cooper.
And as for the their dream wedding, it seemed like a distant reality as they headed to Prince George.
Despite all, Westwick remained determined to marry her one and only, Riley, and it didn't matter where.
"We thought we have our children and we will not let being evacuated stop us. So we figured we'll make it happen one way or another."
On July 29, the original wedding date, the couple married at Grace Anglican Church with 25 close family members and friends.
"We are especially thankful to the people of Prince George," Westwick said.
In helping celebrate the couple's special day, various businesses and organizations decided to help make the wedding day extra special by providing items such as flowers, a hotel room and photography.
Now back home with their children and with another one due in December, the family is ready to settle in and move on and now with treasured memories of their big day.
"We can show our kids that though the tough times, there is always a silver lining," Westwick said.
"We are so fortunate. Thank you to the people of Prince George for helping make our special day happen."
