It is estimated that the demolition of the Prince George Hotel will cost more than $1 million, with a big chunk of that going to clean up its environmental history.

A grant is being sought to help knock down the cost of knocking down the derelict Prince George Hotel.

The city's director of public safety and civic facilities, Rob Whitwham, is presenting a report to council a Monday night's public meeting. In it he suggests pursuing a funding opportunity offered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. It is an envelope of money entitled FCM Green Municipal Fund - Brownfields.

Brownfields, as reported by The Citizen live from the discussion floor at the Union of B.C. Municipalities conference in Whistler, are properties that sit abandoned on a municipality's landscape usually due to costly environmental remediation that must be done to get the property back into public use again.
