Joel Ewert and his B.C. wheelchair basketball team remained undefeated at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island after they defeated Alberta 69-43 Wednesday in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Ewert, a native of Prince George who plays for Canada’s national under-23 team, was held without a point.

B.C. opened with a 66-26 win over Manitoba on Monday, then defeated Ontario 72-36 on Tuesday.

Team B.C. (3-0) advances to the semifinal round on Friday and will play the winner of Wednesday’s Newfoundland-Manitoba playoff.

Prince George hockey players Ryder Green, Cameron Schmidt and Chase Harrington had a day off Wednesday while they awaited results of qualification round games to determine Thursday’s quarterfinal matchups.

B.C. (2-1) will play Manitoba (1-2) in a quarterfinal Thursday at 4 p.m. PT.

In other Prince George results from the Games, being hosted n P.E.I., Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, former Prince George residents Jack and Kieran Hanson will have to wait a day to try to skate to the medal podium at the long track speed skating oval in Halifax.

The Hanson brothers were slated to compete in the male team pursuit with their Fort St. John Elks clubmates, Matthew Mitchell and Nicolas Guliov, but the race was postponed until Thursday due to ice conditions on the outdoor oval in Halifax.

Gulivov was the quickest of the B.C. bunch in the 500m event Wednesday morning, finishing seventh, ahead of Jack Hanson (20th) and Mathews (21st). Kieran Hanson did not finish.

Prince George biathletes Liam Simons and Aliah Turner will be back on the course Thursday morning for the individual events. Simons won the bronze medal in Tuesday’s male pursuit and will line up for a 12.5 km individual race Thursday at 6 a.m. PT.

Turner placed 14th in the pursuit and her female 10 km individual race starts at 10 a.m. PT.

B.C. and Quebec are tied with 25 medals atop the standings. Quebec has nine gold, eight silver and eight bronze, while B.C. has nine gold, four silver and 12 bronze. Alberta ranks third with 22 medals (seven gold, nine silver and six bronze).
