A section of Fifth Avenue from Ospika Boulevard to Highway 97 will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic from July 19 to July 21.

A section of Fifth Avenue will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic from Wednesday to Friday this week.

The City of Prince George is conducting watermain utility work along Fifth Avenue between Ospika Boulevard and Highway 97.

“Traffic delays are expected, and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Nicholson Street or Moffat Street,” a statement released by the city on Monday said. “The work involves replacing the deteriorating water valves on Fifth Avenue, as part of the Stuart Drive capital watermain project. The new watermain will be bigger, in order to improve fire protection on Kinsmen Pace to satisfy the increasing demands in the area.”

The city asks citizens to use caution in the area and pay attention to signage and directions from traffic control personnel. The city will work with emergency services to ensure emergency vehicles have access to the area.
