A Prince George man is facing six charges related to an alleged attempt to flee police in a stolen pickup truck.

Gregory Scott Saugstad, 43, has been charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, break and enter and committing an indictable offence and mischief.

Prince George RCMP said Saugstad was arrested Tuesday near Red Rock after the detachment's crime reduction team attempted to pull over a stolen Ford F-250 on Highway 97.

The driver responded by colliding with a police vehicle on Red Rock Road West.

Two people then fled on foot and one was arrested inside the pickup.

A police service dog and handler were called in and they tracked and apprehended a suspect about one kilometre away while the other remains at large.

Police are also seeking a charge of possession of stolen property against the other person who was arrested, a 27-year-old Prince George man whose name has not been released.

Saugstad, who remained in custody as of Wednesday, is known to police and the court. In mid-2011, he was among three men arrested in connection with the theft of about 1,000 metres of copper wire from a dormant Prince George sawmill and was eventually sentenced to a day in jail for possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Saugstad also faces a charge of driving while prohibited or licence suspended under the Motor Vehicle Act from a June 25 incident.
